Stain Cleaning Guide: How to Get Rid of Any Stain

  • Act Fast:
  • The sooner you address a stain, the easier it will be remedy the problem.
  • Absorb Excess Liquid:
  • Blot or stand on (don't rub) the stain with a clean, white cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible, pour cool water over the stain then repeat by blotting or standing on a dry white towel till the carpet is no longer transfer moisture into the towel.
  • Identify the Stain:
  • Knowing the type of stain will help you choose the appropriate cleaning solution. 
  • Test in an Inconspicuous Area:
  • Before applying any cleaning solution to the stain, test it in a hidden area of the carpet to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration or damage.

  • Apply Cleaning Solution:
  • For general stains: Mix a solution of warm water and a mild dish soap. 
  • For grease or oil stains: Use a specialized grease remover or a solution of warm water and vinegar. 
  • For red wine or coffee stains: Use club soda or a specialized stain remover. 
  • For blood stains : use cold water and a mild detergent. 
  • For pet stains: Use a solution of vinegar and water or a specialized pet stain remover. 
  • Blot Again:
  • After applying the cleaning solution, blot the area again with a clean cloth to remove any remaining stain and solution. 
  • Rinse and Dry:
  • Rinse the area with clean water and blot dry with a clean towel or paper towel. 
  • Vacuum:
  • Once the area is dry, vacuum to restore the carpet's pile. 


Specific Stain Removal Tips:


  • Red Wine: Blot immediately with club soda or a specialized red wine stain remover. 
  • Coffee: Blot immediately with club soda or a solution of warm water and dish soap. 
  • Blood: Apply cold water and blot immediately. 
  • Oil/Grease: Use a specialized grease remover or a solution of warm water and vinegar. 
  • Mud/Dirt: Allow the stain to dry completely, then vacuum or scrape off as much as possible before applying a cleaning solution. 
  • Pet Stains: Use a solution of vinegar and water or a specialized pet stain remover. 
  • Baking Soda: Sprinkle baking soda on the stain to absorb odors and moisture, then vacuum. 
  • Vinegar: Use vinegar as a natural cleaner and deodorizer, especially for pet stains. 
  • Ammonia: Dilute ammonia with water and use it to clean stubborn stains. 


Important Notes:


  • Don't Rub: Rubbing a stain can push it deeper into the carpet fibers. 
  • Use White Cloths: Avoid using colored cloths, as they may transfer dye to the carpet.
